Learning Intention: Calculate the probability of different events and match them to a decimal point on a probability scale. |
Success Criteria:
|
Probability: the chance that something will happen - how likely it is that some event will happen.
Glossary:
Trial: an experiment testing the probability of an event. e.g. rolling a dice or flipping a coin. Event: an outcome of a trial. e.g. a dice landing on six or a coin landing on tails. |
Possible Outcomes: total number of outcomes in a trial. e.g. a dice has six faces so the possible outcomes would be six. Favourable Outcome: the event you are looking for. e.g. the probability of picking a blue marble. |
Three rotation activities for today. They include:
Jar of Marbles: As a group you will work out the chance of picking different coloured marbles from the cup. You will then conduct a trial of picking marbles and compare results with predictions.
Greedy Pig: As a group you will work out the chance of rolling certain numbers on a dice. You will then conduct a trial by playing greedy pig and compare results with predictions.
